This week I got to do a few community outreach events. Elkhorn Slough was involved in an event held in Watsonville called El Nino Day, which was also a celebration of Earth Day. At this event many different organizations set up a table with information about their group, and most had fun games or activities for kids. There was also a DJ, fun bouncy houses, and food trucks with lots of delicious food. Watsonville is a city with a high concentration of Latinos, so each organization was required to have at least one person who spoke Spanish. It was great to see so many families roaming around the event and enjoying themselves.

The Elkhorn Slough table had a fun matching game in both English as well as Spanish, and it was a great opportunity to hand out flyers and talk to passersby about International Migratory Bird Day – which is coming up next weekend for us! As of today, the weather is predicting rain next weekend; let’s hope that changes.

P.S. My Red Knot friend was back this week! In the same exact spot as last time, too. I tried to get a great picture, but it is very hard through the scope. DSCN1099
