On May 21st, I hosted my first International Migratory Bird Day event at Walden Ponds Wildlife Habitat near Boulder. The whole day was hectic. I parked my car and we start unloading right away. The stuff from my car is going this way and that way. Right in front of me, I could see months of work coming together like a puzzle. Stations started arriving. Then our guests. Then it was time for our bilingual bird walk. Then food, and more food. Then the education stations packed up. Then we had our live raptor presentation. Then it was done. The day ended just as quickly as it had started. We hit some hiccups along the way, but they were readily resolved. So at the end of the day, I was proud of my event. I know what I need to improve on, and what I would want to do for next year if I did this in Fort Collins. (Hint, hint!) We had a pretty good turn-out, about 200 people, and we raised over $800 for habitat restoration. So, all in all, it was a good day.
