Today was the final day of the Teen Summer program. The theme for the day was water conservation, and for our station Anita and I created a model aquifer with the kids using rocks and sand. After our demonstration we had the kids create their own edible version of the aquifer. They used Sprite with blue dye, ice cream, Oreo cookies, and sprinkles to create the various layers of the aquifer. The activity was messy but very yummy, and I was surprised to see that every kid not only participated but quickly devoured their aquifer ice cream floats.
This week we also said our farewells to the Youth Conservation Corps. We all enjoyed a final lunch together with a BBQ at the refuge in Jamul, and handed out awards for all the hard work they have accomplished this summer. I can’t believe this summer is already coming to an end!
