On May 26, Friday afternoon was the West LA commencement for the citizen science program. They had completed half a school year in this program, mainly meeting at Kenneth Hahn recreational state park, learning about citizen science and doing restoration work. They also graciously volunteered for shorebird surveys at the Ballona Creek with Tania and me. Though I did not get to know them very well, I still have enjoyed their company during the shorebird surveys. They were always so eager to learn new thing whether or not it was related to shorebirds and they were also fast learners that they were able to distinguish the difference of a type of species. Staff members of LA Audubon, including myself, were happy to have them in this program and hope that they use this experience to expand their knowledge much further.
