The water sparkles, like tiny shards of diamonds that glisten in the sunlight.. it’s cool to the touch, the wind seems inviting and the spirit of adventure starts to stir within the soul… The water whispers, come and explore..

No, I’m not quoting the movie Moana. But I sure do know how she was feeling.

Being out on the water, paddling through enjoying the sun and breeze in my face while watching the sea with its colors dance with the lights as the waves gently rock the kayak, mesmerized by the wonderful wildlife around me.. and then I see people. And I smile. Because they’re mesmerized too. And I have a job to do. Of educating. Of inspiring. Of tying the perhaps loose threads between curiosity and courage, passion and survivability. Of sharing tales from the past to stir hope for the future.  Of invoking a want and a desire to preserve to the ages the wonder and beauty that enfolds and forms a symphony for the senses.

For me, this is what Team OCEAN, EFTA and this internship is all about. It’s about being where you love doing what you love; what makes you smile and knowing you’re making an impact for the better. And while your idea of a hero might not be one in a spray skirt with a life vest, it really is.

Because I have a role in Team OCEAN. And the ocean, is calling me…
