Nice to see you reading my blog! My name is Janne Torres and I will be your Environment for the Americas (EFTA) Intern at the San Diego site. I originally hail from the Bay Area up in Northern California, but I went to school in Southern California at San Diego State University. I just graduated in December with a Bachelor of Science in Biology with an emphasis in Zoology and a minor in Sustainability. So, I’m super excited to get out into the “real world” and gain new experiences, and what a better way than this internship with EFTA and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. I grew up loving animals and I always thought I was going to be a veterinarian, but during college I realized I love ecology, evolutionary and conservation biology, and birds! Therefore, I’m pumped to be able to go out into the field and do shorebird surveys. Some fun things about me: I enjoy kayaking, tidepooling, hiking, playing soccer, watching reruns of Law and Order: SVU, and reading too many books at the same time. I look forward to the next five months in what is sure to be a thrilling ride. Make sure to check back every week to see what I’m up to! ‘Til next time.
