You will assist in a variety of shorebird and seabird work, as well as habitat restoration tasks. The intern will create and deliver bilingual (English/Spanish) public presentations, work onsite with educators as part of our environmental education and interpretative programs, develop and implement an outreach program into the local Spanish-speaking communities, and help with International Migratory Bird Day, Los Angeles Audubon’s Earth Day and Conservation Art Show events.


Knowledge of bird conservation not needed, but a willingness to learn is required and an enthusiasm for interacting with the public and children is strongly encouraged. You will receive all necessary professional training and will gain real life job experience working alongside our wildlife staff and environmental education specialists. This is a great opportunity for career shadowing and hands-on experience in the fields of wildlife biology and education.


Snowy PloverWildlife fieldwork with Los Angeles Audubon is focused on parkland and beaches that are accessible to the public and heavily used by local communities. In many respects these spaces are at the cutting edge of urban ecology, where a threatened or endangered species may exist adjacent to intense development and recreation activities. Participating in urban fieldwork requires patience and a willingness to engage with local community members in an inclusive, non-confrontational manner.

The duration of the internship is 5 months (March – August). Interns will NOT be provided with lodging for the duration of the internship and are responsible for their housing cost. Interns who are local and from the Los Angeles area are encouraged to apply. Interns will be compensated with a monthly stipend and are also required to participate in a weeklong training in San Diego (all expenses included) before the start of their internship.
